Glean Asia has closed its operations

Thank you to every partner, team member, donor, and community who trusted us to walk alongside them. Our work lives on through the people we trained, the solutions we built, and the youth we empowered.

After more than a decade of empowering communities across Southeast Asia through technology, innovation, and human-centered design, Glean Asia has officially closed its operations.

Reflecting on a Chapter of Impact

Glean Asia began with a simple purpose: to use technology and human centered design to strengthen education, civil society, and community resilience. Over the years, that purpose grew into a broad portfolio of programs and solutions that reached schools, youth, nonprofits, and government partners across the region.

At the heart of Glean Asia was a dedicated team made up of designers, developers, educators, researchers, and project staff. Their collective effort allowed the organization to deliver meaningful, context driven change. Their work shaped digital learning programs for remote schools, supported youth driven innovation labs, created accessible tools for people with disabilities, and built data systems that helped civil society organizations better understand and respond to community needs.

The organization’s contributions included:

• EdTech initiatives that brought offline ready digital learning tools to thousands of students
• Youth innovation programs that helped emerging leaders identify community challenges and co-design practical solutions
• Media literacy and digital citizenship programs that strengthened resilience and safety in an increasingly complex online landscape
• Accessible design projects that addressed the needs of vulnerable and marginalized groups
• Technical systems and data platforms that improved service delivery and decision making for nonprofits and government partners

Across all of this work, Glean Asia remained grounded in a belief that technology should serve people and that solutions are most effective when created in partnership with the communities they are meant to support.

As Glean Asia closes, its legacy continues through the efforts of former team members, the programs and tools still in use by partners, and the many young people and community members who engaged with its trainings and platforms. The organization may have concluded, but the impact of its work endures through the relationships formed, the skills shared, and the ideas sparked along the way.
